CM Buzdar's father passes away after cardiac arrest

Sardar Fateh Muhammad, father of Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, passed away after suffering from cardiac arrest on Monday. According to CM Buzdar’s brother, their father was admitted to Tehsil Headquarters hospital after having a heart attack at his residence in Taunsa.He will be buried in the district of Dera Ghazi Khan, Barthi, he further stated.Sardar Fateh Muhammad has been a member of Punjab Assembly thrice.  He obtained the degree of MA (Political Science) in 1964 from Karachi University.He was the Chief of Buzdar Tribes. He had also served as Member, Federal Council, Majlis-e-Shoora during 1983-84 and as Member, District Council, D.G. Khan.He remained as Member Punjab Assembly during 1985-88 and 2002-07; and also served as Chairman, Standing Committee on Religious Affairs and Auqaf during 2003-07. He returned to the Punjab Assembly for the third term in general elections 2008.

PM Imran extends condolences to families of those killed in Bhakkar road accident

Prime Minister Imran Khan extended his condolences on Sunday to the families of the deceased victims of the Bhakkar road accident.The premier turned to Twitter to express his grief over the incident while also giving words of support to the families of killed victims in the rickshaw and bus collision. “Terrible loss of young lives in the accident in Bhakkar which killed 6 girls returning from school & their rickshaw driver. My prayers & condolences go to the families of the victims,” read his tweet.Earlier on Saturday, seven people had lost their lives, including six female matric students who were returning home after giving their exam and had passed away on the spot after their rickshaw collided with a bus killing the driver along with them.

Petrol prices reach Rs100 after govt approves hike

ISLAMABAD: A hike of Rs6 was approved by the federal government in petroleum and high-speed diesel prices on Sunday.As per reports, a Rs6 hike was approved by the government for a litre of petrol and a Rs3 increase per litre for high-speed diesel and kerosene oil after a summary was moved by the Oil and gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Friday.The OGRA had demanded an increase of Rs11.92 per litre for petrol, Rs11.17 for diesel and Rs6.65 for kerosene oil. After the hike the price for petroleum has reached Rs99.34 while the prices will come into effect from 12am tonight.

Forceful conversion of Hindu girls declared un-Islamic

ISLAMABAD: A joint sitting of the representatives of different religions and religious sects on Sunday said Islam doesn’t allow forceful conversion of non-Muslims.Reports revealed that the representatives further agreed that the prevailing issue of Hindu girls and other subsequent matters should be settled in accordance with the law and justice.The joint sitting was arranged by Mutahida Ulema Board Punjab in collaboration with Pakistan Ulema Council which was presided over by Chairman Mutahida Ulema Board and Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, said a press release.The joint declaration pointed out that Islam is a religion of peace, harmony, stability and that teachings of Islam and Quran-O-Sunnah have categorically defined rights for non-Muslim communities residing in Muslim countries.The sitting demanded of the government to ensure implementation on National Action Plan by initiating consultative process for formal legislation of ‘Paigham-e-Pakistan Draft’.The declaration condemned terrorist activities being carried out on account of Islamphobia and also demanded constitution of a judicial commission to probe the killing of Bahawalpur professor to avert such extremist incidents in future.The joint sitting pointed out that ‘Paigham-e-Pakistan Draft’has been unanimously endorsed by all the religious sections of Pakistan and formal consultative process should be ensured for formal legislation of it.The joint sitting lauded efforts on part of Mutahida Ulema Board to keep check on hateful content being propagated through social media and also lauded endeavors of Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar for taking immediate action against elements fanning hatred and violence in society.The joint sitting also lauded the efforts of Mutahida Ulema Board for reinforcing coordination relating to interfaith harmony and for constituting the coordination committees at divisional, district and tehsil level to ensure implementation on decisions of the board.Among notable clerics and representatives of the joint sitting include Maulana Muhammad Hussain Akbar, Professor Zakirur Rehman, Mufti Muhammad Naqshbandi, Maulana AsadUllah Farooq, Hafiz Kazim Raza, Father James, Father Shahzad, Maulana Aseed ur Rehman, Amarnath Randhawa, Pastor Imanuel Khokhar and Pastor Shahid Miraj.

PTI's Wasif Mazhar Raan secures Multan's PP-218 seat after by-polls

MULTAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Wasif Mazhar Raan secured the PP-218 seat for the by-polls held earlier on Sunday.As per reports, the unofficial results of the by-election held in Multan on the vacant seat of PP-218 was secured by the PTI leader by 46,988 votes from 138 polling stations.Raan defeated Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Arshad Raan who maintained the second spot with a total of 39,486 votes.The polling had begun early on Sunday at 8am and wrapped up at 5pm in 138 polling stations out of which 32 were considered sensitive and had at least a thousand security officials positioned around them. PP-218 seat in Multan had become vacant after the death of PTI leader Mazhar Abbas Raan.

Lawmakers to be briefed on Indo-Pak tensions by Army chief

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa will apprise parliamentarians on the recent strains between India and Pakistan.As per reports, the briefing will be held on April 4 at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi with members of standing committees of the National Assembly and Senate on defence, being present at the occasion along with leaders from opposition parties including former ministers.According to a notification issued by the national Assembly Secretariat, the delegation will be headed by chairman NA committee Amjad Ali Khan. Changing name is a conspiracy to end BISP entirely: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

SHIKARPUR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reacted to decision of changing the name of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), calling it a conspiracy to shut the program down entirely. The PPP co-chairman after a plantation drive in Shikarpur talking to the media revealed that those looking to change the name of BISP are conspiring to completely end it. He stated that women in Thatta and Sehwan were protesting for not receiving the amount and these individuals are acting as enemies of the public and the needy. “This is a long-term conspiracy. First they will change the name, then reduce the amount before abolishing it completely,” he stated. “They think that through BISP money is being wasted while I believe that this is the best program in the country,” he added.Moreover, he asserted that through the support programme, not just women were being empowered but the economy was also getting strengthened. Furthermore, he went on condemn that Sindh is being treated unfairly by the federal government due to which developmental work in the province has become difficult.

PM Imran showed weakness by calling Modi: Chaudhry Nisar

TAXILA: Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan revealed on Sunday that he will reach a decision regarding his political plans at a suitable time. During a press conference, the former interior minister revealed that he is closely linked to a political group that is hinders him from becoming part of their rival party PML-N.He further stated that taking the oath in the Punjab Assembly for PA-10 which has been challenged in court by his opponent, would mean that he has accepted the validity and reliability of the polls. He added further that his political future would also be decided soon, “I stood with a party for 35 years and then moved away from its leadership. The people of my constituency have showed their confidence but the current situation is a bit complex." Moreover, he also stated that the government displayed no stance over India while adding that perspective of both former premier Nawaz Sharif and PM Imran is the same while criticizing the latter for calling Indian PM Narendra Modi which showed his weakness. He further condemned the present government saying the economy is operational on the basis of loans while also adding: "Who can tell the premier that the government doesn’t run on twitter. I am surprised how Imran got to know that oil and gas reserves are present in Pakistan. Pakistan is surrounded with issues the country direly needs unity."

PM Imran Khan's Karachi package is a fraud, says Mustafa Kamal

Shah Mehmood Qureshi opposes PM's decision of changing BISP name

MULTAN: Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi opposed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision of changing the name of Benazir Income Support Programme on Sunday.Talking to the media in Multan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader expressed his personal view of not being on board with the idea of changing BISP’s name as the amendment would require taking into consideration legal and constitutional matter. Vote count underway in Multan's PP-128 after polling wraps up

MULTAN: The vote-tallying process is currently ongoing for by-election on the vacant seat of PP-218 that wrapped up earlier here on Sunday.The polling process that commenced at 8am today ended at 5pm without any break with the vote counting process presently going on in 138 polling stations.Reports revealed that out of all the stations, 32 were named sensitive having at least a thousand law enforcement personnel deployed around them. The seat was being contested by six candidates with the leading rivalry being Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.Election Commission revealed earlier that an approximate amount of 203,188 people had been expected to cast their votes today.The seat had fallen vacant earlier after PTI leader Mazhar Abbas Raan had passed away.

Adviser of Sindh Chief Minister of law and information, Syed Murtaza Wahab condemned on Sunday Prime Minister Imran Khan’s the decision of removing late Benazir Bhutto’s name from Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).The Pakistan People’s Party leader confronting the premier’s decision expressed his disgruntle and stated that to change the name of the support programme, a change in law is also needed. “Someone shd explain 2 PM that there is a thing called Law & when law says Benazir Income Support Programme it cant b changed unless law is changed. Kaptaan ur the PM not the King plz try 2 understand law before making commitments. Utility Stores to provide subsidy on 19 essential items during Ramazan

ISLAMABAD: The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has decided to provide subsidy on 19 essential commodities during the month of Ramadan, an official revealed on Sunday.Talking to APP, the official of USC informed that the package aimed at providing relief and facility to the middle income and lower income people by providing them essential items at a lower price through their countrywide network.The official informed further that under the Ramzan Package, USC would provide subsidy from Rs5 to 50 on different commodities including flour, ghee and oil, rice, tea, sugar, pulses, baisan, dates, milk and syrups.Aiming at collecting data about demand and supply for procurement and to ensure timely availability of commodities across the country the meeting of the zonal managers of the corporation was held on March 16 after which procurement procedure is expected to start.Earlier the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in its meeting on Tuesday approved Rs0.2 (Two) billion for Ramazan Relief Package-2019 against Rs1.73 billion given in 2018 for this purpose.

Pakistan calls for ensuring personnel's safety in UN peacekeeping missions

Pakistan's Permanent Representative to UN Maleeha Lodhi UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has underscored the need for ensuring not only the security of the UN peacekeepers operating in the hot spots around the world, but also safety of the personnel in equal measure.It was stated by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Maleeha Lodhi at a peacekeeping event co-hosted by Pakistan at UN Headquarters in New York. Voicing concern over the increasing number of fatalities suffered by United Nations peacekeepers operating in hot spots around the world, she said while security will remain a challenge and will vary from mission to mission, the safety side of the coin can be addressed by adequately equipping peacekeepers with training, necessary equipment, and better health facilities on the ground.It was the first meeting on triangular formula -- training, capacity building, safety and security and performance -- that comprised China, Egypt, Indonesia and Morocco.Maleeha Lodhi said 193 peacekeepers lost their lives due to deliberate attacks, 117 due to accidents, 231 as a result of illness and 69 were listed under other causes between the year 2014 and 2019. The Pakistani envoy said it is important for the troop and police contributing countries, the Security Council and the Secretariat to work together enabling better decision making related to planning of peacekeeping missions.

Pak High Commissioner to India will replace Tehmina as Foreign Secretary

Sohail MahmoodMULTAN:  Foreign Minister Shah   Mahmood on Sunday said senior diplomat Sohail Mahmood will replace Tehmina Janjua as foreign secretary.Speaking to the media, the foreign minister applauded Janjua for handling difficult situations in an excellent manner. Shah Mahmood QureshiJanjua was the first woman to become Pakistan’s foreign secretary. Mahmood is currently serving as Pakistan's High Commissioner to India. He previously served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkey. Before that, he served as the ambassador to Thailand and permanent representative to the UNESCP Bangkok for four years till 2013.Responding to questions regarding political situation, the  minister Shah  urged the opposition parties support the government in resolving issues facing the country. Tehmina JanjuaHe said leaders of the political parties   play  positive role in security matters of the country, putting aside their differences. The Foreign Minister said despite different kinds of challenges, the government is trying to bring the country on the way of development.

Lights out at PM office, Parliament House to observe Earth Hour

ISLAMABAD: Lights went out at the Prime Minister’s Office as well as the Parliament House in the federal capital on Saturday as part of the global Earth Hour movement to protect environment and save energy.According to a PM Office statement, all the non-essential lights of the PM Office were switched off symbolically except those required to ensure security of the building.The government’s official Twitter handle also urged the public to switch off excessive lights for sixty minutes at 8:30pm to 9:30pm as it tweeted: “Earth Hour is being commemorated all over the world including Pakistan to show support for strategies that will help solve the problem of global warming. let's join a million across the world by switching off the lights b/w 8:30PM and 9:30PM in recognition of #EarthHour”The Earth Hour is global event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature which features the turning off of all unnecessary lights on a specific day for an hour from 2030 to 2130 hours to raise awareness on climate change and energy conservation.

Pakistan highlights Billion Tree Tsunami project at UN

Pakistan projected its flagship project ‘Billion Tree Tsunami’, as one of its leading efforts to fight climate change at a high level event on the subject organized by the President of the United Nations, General Assembly.The project, the UN was told, had become the first entity under the global ‘Bonn Challenge’ to surpass the pledge of restoring 3.48 million hectors and created half a million green jobs and has now been transformed into a nation-wide '10 Billion Tree Tsunami', inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan.During the meeting, Pakistan stated that climate change, besides causing widespread devastation, threatens countries’ abilities to accomplish national priorities and achieve sustainable economic growth while also mentioning that Pakistan, with its contribution to the total global Green House Gas (GHG) emission limited to only 0.8%, was considered the eighth most climate vulnerable country in the world.According to the press release, it was brought to the attention of the world assembly that Pakistan had faced whims of climate change in the form of glacial melt and widespread devastation caused by floods in 2010 and 2011 as well as the drought in 2014. Pakistan had taken actions in the domain of both adaptation and mitigation, which includes in disaster risk reduction, resilient agriculture, flood water utilization for ecosystem restoration, ground water recharge, renewable energy, transportation, and town planning.Pakistan also flagged the vital importance of climate finance and while referring to Pakistan’s adaptation needs that stood at $14 billion per annum, Pakistan called on the developed countries to fulfil their pledge of mobilising $100 billion by 2020. The country’s statement was well received, including endorsement by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), that specifically praised the country’s achievement in global “Bonn Challenge” and reforestation efforts through “10 Billion Tree Tsunami” in its own statement at the Assembly. The high-level meeting on Climate and Sustainable Development for All was convened by the President of the General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces on 28-29 March 2019 and was attended by a number of top delegations from around the world including the Presidents of Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Prime Ministers of Fiji and Dominica.

PM Imran Khan inaugurates Jinnah Express train

LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that an increase is required for the reduction of pressure from roads, while inaugurating the Jinnah Express train at Lahore Railway Station on Saturday. "Across the world, a common man uses train and this actually shows the priority of the countries", he stated adding that China was a leading country in terms of train technology and its help would be sought in this regard.The premier went on to say that Pakistan had a great tourism potential and it was essential to develop trains to promote tourism in the country.The premier while responding to Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid's request for health cards for railway labourers said unfortunately, prime ministers used to consider themselves kings in the past."Being a responsible prime minister of a democratic government, I will not make any announcement before discussing it with the federal finance minister," the PM added.He further stated that everybody should get health insurance in the country and the government was starting health insurance from a lower level.Furthermore he said that health cards would support medical treatment up to Rs 720,000 adding: "We have to uplift the deprived segment of society.”The premier said that Main-Line 1 project would bring about a revolution in railways besides facilitating the people, adding that he would direct the ministry of petroleum to use trains for freight.The prime minister added that the country would get benefit through improvement in railways and the government would provide all possible support to upgrade its system.Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, Advisor to PM on Political Affairs Naeemul Haq and Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal were also present at the occasion.

CM Sindh not invited in any event in the province by PM Imran: Murtaza Wahab

KARACHI: Adviser to Chief Minister Sindh, Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Saturday said that the formation of Karachi Transformation Committee by the Prime Minister Imran Khan was an unconstitutional step. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader addressing a presser stated that in accordance with the constitution all the administrative matters of the province would be taken care of solely by the provincial government. The adviser stated further that regardless of the number of committees formed by the premier, they would all be supervised by the CM Sindh instead of the Governor adding that the Chief Executive of the province according to the constitution was the former not the latter. He revealed further that CM Syed Murad Ali Shah was not invited in any of the events attended by the Prime Minister during his visit of the province upon the fears of him raising questions about outstanding dues, supremacy of the constitution, NFC award, and rights over gas and electricity.Providing examples of the developmental work conducted by the Sindh government, Wahab stated that renovation of Cantonment Station and surrounding roads, revamping of Shahrah-e-Faisal, construction of underpasses and overhead bridges on it, revamping of University Road and Tariq Road in Karachi.He further asserted that PM Khan should stop deviating from the promises he made during his election campaign while also recalling that the promise was made to build five million homes but not even 50 had been built so farRegarding PPP’s co-chairman’s train march Wahab explained Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was meant to inform the people Sindh about how the federal government was not giving them their due rights.The adviser said that PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari was alleged in the past too but nothing was proven adding that the Bhutto family had faced the fake cases bravely in the past and they would do the same this time too. Moreover, he said that same relief should also be given to the other needed prisoners has had been given to the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by the apex court.

Daily Jang reporter Matloob Hussain Mosavi missing after armed men break into house

KARACHI: Matloob Husain Mosavi, reporter of the Daily Jang newspaper was reportedly abducted from his residence by unidentified individuals early on Saturday.According to reports citing the the victim’s brother, Minhaj Mosavi, the young journalist was taken away by multiple people who jumped over the wall into his house, donning masks that concealed their faces at 4am in Karachi’s Salman Farsi Society. It was revealed further that the individuals behaved badly with the family members as well, locking them in a room and taking Matloob away.The individuals were said to have behaved badly with the family members as well, locking them in a separate room before capturing Matloob. Minhaj further cited neighbor’s accounts as well who stated that the men had arrived in plain clothes bearing arms in three vehicles of police, Toyota Prado and Toyota Vigo. While Matloob was not said to have associations with political or religious organizations, his brother termed him to be a social activist, possessing liberal and progressive opinions. Furthermore, it was revealed that the family had also filed an application at the Al Falah police station.

Bilawal alleges three federal ministers of being associated to terrorists

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari came out on Saturday proclaiming that at least three federal ministers are closely associated to terrorists.Talking to the media at Naudero, the party chairman made a reference to the recent appointment of Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Shah as federal parliamentary affairs minister saying that the government has appointed one akin to the three ministers already linked to terrorists. "As many as three federal ministers are close aides of terrorists. Rather than taking away their cabinet ministries, the government recently appointed one like them," he stated. The PPP leader went on to state that there is a need of stern action against terrorists and all those hailing from banned organizations while adding that even though Prime Minister Imran Khan has the right to make appointments, what is he trying to put across by taking terrorist on board the cabinet. "PM Khan's government starts and end at the NAB. NAB is a draconian law introduced to victimise opposition,” he stated adding that: “Justice doesn't discriminate. A federal minister face too many charges but no one can arrest him.”

Man cuts off ex-wife's tongue after divorcing her in Pindi Bhattian

PINDI BHATTIAN: A woman had her tongue cut off by her ex-husband on Saturday after he divorced her in Hafizabad’s Pindi Bhattian area.As per reports, Nasreen’s husband identified as Jahangir had divorced her a while back but had headed over to his in-laws’ residence on Saturday with a pair of scissors and had cut off her tongue. It was further added by police officials that Nasreen was later rushed to a hospital in the locality while a case against the suspect has also been filed which states that Jahangir wanted to murder his ex-wife after giving her a divorce. This comes as the third incident this week of domestic abuse, after Asma Aziz and Hajra had stepped forward earlier alleging they had been abused by their husands in Lahore.

PML-N MNA submits resolution to ban dowry in Punjab Assembly

LAHORE: A resolution seeking to place a ban on the age-old custom of dowry was submitted in the Punjab Assembly on Saturday.As per reports, the resolution was presented in the assembly by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Uzma Zahid Bukhari who demanded a ban on the practice on by the state itself.The resolution stated that the custom of dowry is not present in the teachings of Islam while those who still put forward this demand should be taken action against. On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had already passed a bill last year that not just bans the practice of dowry but also limits the wasteful spending on weddings. As per the bill the bride’s family will not be able to gift anything over the price of Rs 0.2 million while a fine of Rs 0.3 million or a three-month sentence will also be handed to those demanding it.

Extreme heat coming Karachi's way in the next three days

KARACHI: An extreme spell of hot temperature will predictably be engulfing Karachi in the coming three days as the met office issued warning to the residents. As per Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the metropolis will be enveloped in an extreme hot weather in the enxt three days starting Friday till Sunday owing to the change in the wind direction as well as the sea breeze coming to a standstill. Director met office, Abdul Rasheed stated: “Today [Friday] we recorded the city’s temperature at 38 degrees Centigrade. The trend is likely to continue for the next two to three days and in the daytime the temperature could touch 39 degrees Centigrade.”He went on to add: “However, there is no threat of heatwave, neither any such advisory has been issued by the Met office. We keep all institutions concerned updated of the weather trend and the same is conveyed to all relevant authorities.” Prior to this, reports had been afloat of weather experts issuing cautions that this year is expected to hit a record high of hot temperature since 2015 during which the heatwave took the lives of at least 2,000 people.

Man shot dead in Karachi's Defence area

KARACHI: One person was declared dead after receiving bullets on a car on Saturday in the Defence Phase 7 area in the metropolis.As per reports by the police, a man in his car was fired at by attackers on a motorbike that killed him, with initial reports suggesting the attack had been conducted owing to personal animosity.In a related incident that occurred last week, acclaimed religious scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani had also narrowly escaped from a targeted attack by two individuals who shot at two vehicles, leaving two dead, at Karachi’s NIPA Chowrangi.

Farooq Sattar declared not guilty in loudspeaker act violation case

KARACHI: Former leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Farooq Sattar was acquitted on Saturday by a session court in reference to the breach of the Loudspeaker Act case. The Member National Assembly (MNA) had been charged in regards to the case last year on October 3, 2019 to which had pleaded not guilty. New Town Police Station had filed a case against him in Soldier bazaar in 2015 over the breach of the Loudspkeaer Act after he launched a demonstration on the shortage of water using a loudspeaker in the red zone.The senior politician had later in June, turned to court to seek bail in the case.Apart from him, MQM-P leaders Wasay Jalil, Faisal Sabzwari, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Haider Abbas Rizvi and Nasreen Jalil had also been charged, amongst which Siddiqui and Rizvi were named absconders in the same case under the Section 144 of Pakistan Penal Code.

Six killed, two injured in bus and rickshaw collision in Bhakkar

Photo: Geo.tvBHAKKAR: A collision between a rickshaw and a bus left five students and the rickshaw driver dead and two other critically injured in the Bhakkar area of Punjab.As per reports citing rescue officials, before the rickshaw had collided with the passenger bus, the female students aboard who lost their lives had been returning after their giving their exam. The accident killed five students and the driver immediately while the remaining two wounded passengers were moved to a hospital in the locality.The injured are stated to be presently in a critical condition.Subsequent to the incident, locals of the area launched a demonstration by blocking the road and setting ablaze a bus that was in the area.

GHOTKI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday said corruption was only  hurdle in the way of progress and prosperity in Sindh.Addressing a public gathering, the premier lamented that Sindh situation could not prosper despite the fact that  Karachi was its  financial hub. He said the people's condition hasn't improved in Ghotki, the district which hosts over 250 gas wells."When corruption spreads, people's  money go to pockets  of handful  individuals," he said."Sindh received 237 billion gas  royalty in 10 years , how much of that money Ghotki received ," the prime minister asked.Imran Khan mocked the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) recent train march that was led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.The premier said the PPP gathered people by paying Rs2000 to each participant of the march.He said the PPP was holding march and protests to protect the money it accumulated through corruption.  "Do whatever you  can , I will  spare you until you return the looted money them," the PM said addressing both PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.He said he won't be worried even if both the opposition parties  hold protests at D-Chowk in Islamabad. "I will focus my attention on Sindh now. And I won't do it for votes. I will do it  because I think entire Pakistan should  prosper," he said.Imran Khan said he would introduce  health insurance card of worth 720,000 in Sindh.He said a program to help poor woman of Sindh was also on the cards, adding that the government would also give loans to poor.

KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday announced Rs162 billion package for Karachi, stressing the need for a chalking out a master- plan for nation's commercial hub.The prime minister said as many as 18 projects would be undertaken under Karachi package including 10  for transport. "A master-plan is required to solve the problems facing Karachi," the premier said at a press briefing.Prime minister Khan also underscored the need for vertical development in order to stop expansion of the city which he said become an obstacle in  providing basic amenities. He said the government would also construction of high-rise buildings in the city to restrain the expansion.  "Karachi seems like a concrete slab," he said and urged the Sindh government to preserve green areas in the city."There is a need to stop Karachi from further expansion," he said, adding that his government would hammer out a master-plan. Talking about water shortage, he said  no campaign was  launched in the Karachi to save water. He said big water reservoir could be built by saving water.He said Karachi's development was  vital for the development  of the entire country .  The prime minister said the Sindh government was responsible for looking after the city.The prime minister also inaugurated Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim and lauded Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar for launching the project.The Prime Minister, who is on a two-day visit to the metropolis, will also hold important meeting regarding development projects in the city.

A video of a young boy feeding a cat in the street is going viral on the internet and it will restore your faith in humanity.In the video apparently shot in Karachi, the boy is seen walking after leaving some milk for the cat when a man asks him to stop and explain what did he just do.The boy walks toward the cat and tells the man  that he bought some milk for the cat.Moved by his act of kindness, the man asks the boy whether he had his meal. The boy says although he had  breakfast, he has yet to have lunch.The man then says he is going to give him some money so that he can buy food for himself. The video is being widely shared on Facebook and Twitter, with people praising the the kid  who seems to come from a poor family.

However, dust-thunderstorm/rain is expected at scattered places in Hazara division, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, while at isolated places in Malakand, Mardan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions and Islamabad.Past 24 Hours Weather: Weather remained dry in most parts of the country. Asma torture case: Accused Faisal has long criminal record

LAHORE:  Suspect Faisal, who was detained to torture wife for refusing to dance in front of his friends, has a long criminal history in Punjab.It has been revealed  that  Faisal  has allegedly been involved in several  cases of robbery  as   he is wanted to Punjab Police in 8 cases of burglary. FIR against him has reportedly been registered in  Johar Town, Qila Gujar Singh, and Defence   police stations.The accused during the interrogation, made startling revelation, saying, he and his wife are addicted to the drug and were not in their senses when the sad incident occurred, adding that they were taking ice heroin. Meanwhile, Asma Aziz, whose husband allegedly tortured her and shaved her head, recorded her statement before a judicial magistrate here on Friday.  Asma's StatementIn her statement, Asma said, "My husband brought two of his friends over to our house and asked me to drink alcohol and dance for them. When I refused, my husband, Faisal, tied my feet and started to torture me."Asma said that three employees namely Rashid, Amjad and Farzana were present at their residence at the time of the incident. "When I tried to run out of the house, my husband hit me with a manhole cover,” she said."My husband shaved off my head," she told the magistrate. She said she called a friend from her employee Farzana's phone. "My friend came over and took me to the police station. When we asked the police officials to conduct a medical examination they asked for Rs5,000. The police neither gave a report nor conducted a medical examination.Medical reportsThe medical examinations of Asma Aziz revealed that she suffered various injuries. According to her  medical report which was released on Friday identified six various wounds. Her fingers bore scratch marks and were swollen. The examination report stated that Asma had scratch marks on her left ear and cheek. After the torture, Asma's hearing from her left ear has been affected, it added.It stated that there was redness and watering in her left eye, however, her vision was not affected. There are also torture marks on her face, the report said.

Indian ex-general says Pak Army's media wing ISPR wins information war

LONDON: A former Indian military official  has commended the Pakistan Army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) for adopting outstanding strategy in the domain of hybrid warfare.Speaking at the International Institute of Strategic Studies in UK, Lt Gen (retd) Syed Ata Husnain acknowledged that ISPR outclassed the Indian army in information war saying: “I want to give full marks to the ISPR for the information strategy it has played out”.The ex-general,  who had also served as the corps commander in IoK, said that  ISPR brilliantly performed its work for Pakistan by ensuring detailed alienation of Kashmiris against Indian armed forces, adding, “If anyone has ever taught us [India] about the information operation it was the ISPR… it has done an outstanding job.”He accused Modi government for the  Pulwama suicide attack in occupied Kashmir, saying he was aware of the fact that the Pulwama-like incident was inevitable due to the Indian government’s lack of understanding of the conflict. Ata Husnain said that the Indian army had made a lot of strategic mistakes in 30 years but one of major blunder was to consider the military actions as a psychological war.According to the retired general, the youth’s mammoth funeral procession was a cause of rising extremism among Kashmiris, adding that use of force could not solve the Kashmir dispute.

National Finance Commission agreed to make efforts to finalize NFC Award by December 31

Lahore: The 5th meeting of the 9th National Finance Commission (NFC) was held today at Lahore with Federal Finance Minister, Asad Umar, in the chair.The six sub-groups, formulated during the first meeting in February, gave presentation on various aspects of resources distribution as per the terms of reference assigned to the groups. The main focus of all sub-groups’ deliberations was transparency, harmonization and sharing of data. The members of the Commission appreciated the work done by the six sub-groups in their first meetings. It was agreed that the sub-groups would continue their deliberations and present their reports in the subsequent meetings. The Chairman suggested that deliberations should also include incentives for poverty alleviation and social sector spending. The representative of Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa proposed a framework for NFC deliberations aiming at equalizing fiscal resources across federating units, equal access to public services for all citizens of Pakistan and expenditure efficiency at all levels of the federation. All members agreed on the framework and lauded the efforts of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in this regard. The Chairman emphasized the importance of a well deliberated and consensus based National Finance Commission Award and said that all federating units shared a huge responsibility in that regard. The meeting agreed to make efforts to finalize the NFC Award by December 31, 2019. It was also agreed to hold the next meeting, before end of April, 2019, which would focus on FATA and the taxation aspects of ease of doing business. The Chairman reiterated that provincial governments will be engaged in the fiscal related discussion with the IMF. He also suggested that each federating unit should nominate a focal person for data sharing to facilitate the working sub-groups. He also stressed for strengthening NFC Secretariat and said that necessary measures would be taken in that regard. Technical members from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa volunteered to submit a proposal in this regard.

PM Imran Khan says federal govt to introduce ?Ehsas?, ?Sehat Insaf? programs in Sindh as well

KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan Friday said that as the federal government was providing resources for the various development projects in Sindh, it would also introduce poverty alleviation program ‘Ehsas’ and ‘Sehat Insaf’ Program in the province.Pm Imran was speaking at a dinner-reception hosted by Governor Sindh Imran Ismail for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Members of the National and Provincial Assemblies from Sindh here at the Governor House.The Prime Minister said that the present government inherited severe economic challenges, but now the situation was heading towards improvement.He said that the government was bringing reforms in every sector so that people got facilities.The Prime Minister urged the PTI members of assemblies to increase their contacts with people in their respective constituencies.The welfare of masses especially the provision of health and education facilities should be their priority, he added.Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Finance Asad Umer and Minister for Planning Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar also attended the dinner-reception.

PM Imran performs ground breaking of Gwadar Int?l Airport

GWADAR: Prime Minister Imran Khan Friday launched work on New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP) and announced various other development schemes for the city, what he believed would become an engine of growth for Pakistan.“What a pleasure it is to be in Gwadar. Insha Allah, in coming months, years, Gwadar would be, I see, as engine of growth for Pakistan,” he said addressing the ground breaking ceremony of the airport.The event was attended by federal ministers, Balochistan chief minister, parliamentarians, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan Yao Jing besides huge number of Chinese workers and government officials.The airport was included among Early Harvest High Priority Project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor in January 2014. The Chinese government would assist Pakistan for construction of the airport under Chinese Grant Assistance.The project is part of overall infrastructure development of Balochistan. It would be developed as a green-field facility with all modern facilities for safe operation.The new Gwadar airport would be able to accommodate large aircraft such as A380. The project would comprise a modern terminal building with cargo terminal having initial handling capacity of 30,000 tons per year.On this occasion, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed for construction of Pakistan and China Vocational Training Institute and Pak-China Friendship Hospital.The prime minister, who earlier unveiled the plaque of the project, thanked Chinese ambassador for the grant given by the Chinese government for the airport.He welcomed the participants of the expo and said the event would grow with each coming year.He assured the fishermen not to worry about their sustenance owing to the construction of the highway as special bridges would be built to facilitate them.The Prime Minister categorically said any development would be of no use unless it benefited the local people.He said in the past, the locals were ignored while executing the development projects in Balochistan.Imran Khan said gas worth billions of rupees was extracted from Sui but it could not change the living standard of the local people.He said it was pleasing that the capacity of the hospital in Gwadar would be enhanced and a vocational training institute would also help create employment opportunities.The prime minister announced to launch Insaf Sehat Card to provide health insurance cover worth Rs720,000 to every family.He said previously power was being transmitted from Iran, but now the government had decided to link the area with national grid.A desalination plant would also be set up in the city and under Clean and Green Pakistan, one million saplings would be planted. Besides, a solid waste management system would also be established to protect the area from pollution.He said following the models of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, the government had decided to recycle water in Gwadar to water the plants.Khan told the gathering that Gwadar and Quetta would be linked through railways as it was the best travel mode but unfortunately Pakistan had been lagging behind in this sector. He said Chinese support was being sought for up-gradation of the railways system as the country had the most advanced rail system. He said one could travel from Karachi to Lahore within four hours if you take Chinese train.Imran said having located at an ideal location and being well connected, Gwadar’s development would be the development of whole of Pakistan.Prime Minister Khan said he was looking forward to extending bilateral cooperation with China during his upcoming visit in late April in various fields like train technology, agriculture and cage fishery.Commended the work of the Chinese workers in Gwadar, he said soon a cargo and passenger ferry service would also be launched from Gwadar to Karachi that would later be extended to Qatar.

Matric exams to begin from April 1 in Sindh, no further delay, assures Education Minister

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Education Sardar Shah has assured that matriculation exams will begin from April 01 and there will be no further delay this time.Talking to media, Sardar Shah said, “Matriculation exams will be held on time on April 01.”“Exams will not be delayed at any cost this time. We can summon educated person from private and local government departments for exams and if needed we will personally monitor the examination,” vowed the minister. The education minister said government teachers’ protest is a conspiracy against matric examination, adding that the summary of the demand of teachers have been moved to Sindh Chief Minister.
