PTI defends PM Imran's 'chicken plan'

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan’s proposal of poverty alleviation through poultry met with immense criticism after he put forth the recommendation of providing eggs and chicken to rural women during a ceremony marking his government’s 100 days in office. The plan requires provision of livestock to women hailing from underprivileged backgrounds in order to encourage them for starting their own business. “The project has been tested and the government will provide injections to them for raising the chickens faster. This way they will have nutrient food for eating and more chickens and eggs to sell,” the premier had said. The project however became no less than a joke as it was much criticised on the social media. Addressing the criticism that surfaced, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in a post uploaded Saturday, stated that the chicken plan initially emerged as the brainchild of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in 2016 as a plausible solution to eradicate poverty and hunger in the world. The ruling party responded on Twitter saying, “Microsoft founder @BillGates launched a campaign to help extremely poor families in Africa by giving them chickens. However, when PM Imran Khan talks about it, it becomes an issue.”“Propagandists really can't rise above their hate!” it added.Gates had announced collaborating with Heifer International, a charity organisation that donates livestock to the needy and destitute around the world. Taking to his personal blog, he wrote:“But through my work with the foundation, I’ve met many people in poor countries who raise chickens, and I have learned a lot about the ins and outs of owning these birds. (As a city boy from Seattle, I had a lot to learn!) It’s pretty clear to me that just about anyone who’s living in extreme poverty is better off if they have chickens.”He added, “In fact, if I were in their shoes, that’s what I would do—I would raise chickens,” Gates went on to explain that birds are easy and inexpensive to keep and maintain, remain a good investment, keep children healthy and empower women.

He added: "It is my earnest desire and effort to resolve the Kashmir issue through dialogue as it will bring peace and prosperity to the entire region."Lamenting  the Indian government’s reaction to Pakistan’s initiatives for peace in the region, the prime minister said Pakistan wants peace in the region as it was the only way forward. He said that the problems between Pakistan and India are not due to the public but exist between the governments, adding that efforts for negotiation will continue. He said presently his government, state institutions, including the army, and political leadership were on the same page and there was consensus on efforts being made to reach peace with India but unfortunately the reaction from across the border had derailed the initiative. The prime minister said that Pakistan is installing a fence at its border with Afghanistan to control infiltration of terrorists.“Pakistan’s approach is positive but India will have to bring change in its mindset,” the prime minister said. “We have given an open invitation to India and it is now up to them how they respond.” The one-sided game, however, could not continue for a long time and the Indian side would have to come forward in that regard, he added.Imran Khan said he cited the example of Germany and France in his speech at Kartarpur as both the countries had got benefitted from peace and normalization of ties.“The best way to alleviate poverty and uplift the people of subcontinent is to resolve our differences through dialogue and start trading,” he added.About the killing of Kashmiris by the Indian troops and gross human rights violations in the occupied valley, the prime minister said the Indian government should not treat the Kashmir issue merely as a territorial dispute rather a humanitarian one.Responding to a questiona bout Afganistan, PM said  that Pakistan-Afghan border was being fenced to stop infiltration of terrorists, adding it is not in Pakistan’s interest to have used its soil for terrorism outside the country.

Friday Faves

Hi friends! The weekend is here! What do you have going on? Any fun plans? I was supposed to head to a wine tasting with friends, but our usual babysitters weren’t available. I could have asked the fam to watch them, but they have events going on throughout the day, so instead of having overlapping childcare (and feeling like I’m inconveniencing the world even though I’m sure they don’t mind), I’m just going to skip out. With the change of plans, I’m going to use it as an opportunity to do some fun and festive things with the girls. (And I’ll have my own wine tasting while they’re asleep and I’m watching The Princess Switch for the second time. Not even a little sorry.) P’s class has a cocoa and cookies party which should be super cute, and I’m taking both girls plus one of each of their friends to see Ralph Breaks the Internet. Has anyone seen it?

Other than that, I’ll be continuing to hide the arriving Christmas presents (I’m running out of spots in the house haha), catching a Peloton Live DJ class, and packing for our Disney trip! I’m ready for that Christmas churro.

I’d love to hear what you’re up to this weekend!

It’s time for the weekly Friday Faves party. This is where I share some of my favorite finds, wears, reads, and eats from the week. It’s always fun to hear what you’re loving, too, so please shout out any faves in the comments below!

Christmas decor:

– ALL the Christmas decor. Initially, I wasn’t going to bring our Christmas stuff to Tucson. I figured we’d get a little tree – just like last time we were in Tucson for a few months and arrived on Christmas Eve! – and call it good. I’m so, so glad the Pilot convinced me to bring it. The girls and I had a jolly time drinking cocoa and decorating the tree, and putting out all of the usual decor. Not a single ornament has been broken thus far and by writing that, I’m sure we’ll lose at least a handful in the next week.

Christmas decor 2

Christmas decor

Christmas decor 3

Real talk: our decorations have been up for almost 2 weeks now, but I finally feel like it’s appropriate to post these pics. Heh.

Christmas decor 4

(Ps I can’t wait to pain this horrible red wall but for the holiday season, it works.)

– I’m in the market for a ridiculous inflatable for the yard and have my eye on this one.

Read, watch, listen:

– I started China Rich Girlfriend, and just like the first book, I’m loving it so far. The books are so scandalous and intriguing, and the various plot lines are like the best soap opera. I definitely recommend the series so far if you’re looking for a fun and fluffy read. (I did see the first movie, and liked it, but the book is way better.)

A great article with the founder of Beautycounter.

This cracked me up.

– The Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack. I know, I know, I’m late to the party. Since I’ve officially emerged from my “Hamilton and Greatest Showman on repeat” cloud, I started listening to some new-to-me soundtracks. It took me a little while to get into this one, but once I Wiki-ed the plot line, I could listen to the whole soundtrack and totally cried. “Waving Through a Window” and “You Will Be Found” are my very faves.

Beauty + fashion + health:

This camo sweatshirt is cute for life (with a pair of leggings and low tops) and it’s also amazing for sleep. It’s insanely soft and cozy.

Magnesium oil

Magnesium oil. I have a whole post going up about this next week, but I had some hormone testing done and was surprised with the results. To help with adrenal fatigue, I’m really focusing on decreasing stress, promoting sleep, and eating as well as I can. This magnesium oil has been a game changer with sleep and some of the mental stress I’ve been feeling. About 80% of Americans are deficient in magnesium, which is an important mineral. A lack of magneium can cause neurological effects (like insomnia and anxiety) and muscular effects (like spasms and pain). I spray it on my feet at night (it tingles a little) and wash it off 20 minutes later, then sleep like a BABY. I haven’t had such vivid dreams in a looooong time.

– Been wearing this lip gloss in fig a lot lately! The color looks super dark in the container, but it’s actually very sheer and a lovely plum shade for winter.

Fitness:

An oldie but a sweaty holiday-themed Tabata workout.

How to know what health and fitness information to follow.

A high volume interval training workout.

More reasons to have protein before bed.

Happy Friday, friends!
xo

Speedy hearings in British national Fahad Malik?s murder case after CJP?s notice

LONDON: After the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar, took notice of the matter an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Islamabad is conducting day-to-day hearing of British Pakistani Barrister Fahad Malik’s murder case. The case of Barrister Fahad Malik’s killing was raised by a group of British MPs during a meeting with Chief Justice Saqib Nisar in the House of Commons. When the MPs drew attention of the CJP towards the case of the Briton who was killed in Islamabad more than two years ago, the CJP remarked that there has been a delay and stressed that he himself had taken notice of this case and instructed that the matter be finalised in one month. Chief Justice Saqib Nisar said that he called the anti-terrorism court (ATC) judge to the Supreme Court and asked him about the delays in Fahad Malik’s case. The CJP had assured that justice will be done and acknowledged that Pakistan greatly valued overseas Pakistanis. The Chief Justice had looked into the matter after the deceased’s brother Jawad Malik filed an application before the Human Rights Cell of the Supreme Court a month ago requesting for speedy trial and justice in his brother’s murder case. He had written to the Chief Justice that despite the passage of over two years, the trial of the case has not even commenced. “Surprisingly in December 2016, pursuant to FIR No. 239/2016, lodged at Shalimar Police Station F-10 Islamabad, Judge of Anti-Terrorism Court No. 1 after taking cognisance of the matter and before the commencement of the trial passed an order removing terrorism clauses and transferred the case to the courts of ordinary jurisdiction.”He wrote that the case was transferred back to Anti-Terrorist Court by a Division Bench of Islamabad High Court in July 2018, with a direction to conclude the trial within 60 days but “as it appears that after a lapse of more than 3 months, the trial not even begun (contrary to directions of the High Court).”“Accordingly, I beseech your kind self, to please take serious notice of this matter and pass appropriate orders on our application. Without your notice, we have no hope for justice.”The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has thereafter framed charges on the accused and commenced trial of the case. So far 10 witnesses have appeared before the court to record their statement. However, it is said that 10 witnesses still remain. Three accused have been indicted in the case including Raja Arshad Mehmood, Nouman Yaqoob Khokhar and Raja Hashim Khan. The Shalimar police had booked the accused after Fahad Malik was gunned down in F-10/3 in the early hours of August 15, 2016.The last hearing took place on Thursday 29 November where the prosecution completed the examination-in-chief of one witness whereas the cross-examination of the witness was not conducted due to the absence of the senior defense counsel. The case has been adjourned to Tuesday 4th December.

Clarification: NICOP requirement waived off for emigrant workers

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development has issued a clarification regarding media reports that the requirement of National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) has been revoked for all the Pakistanis living abroad. Spokesperson of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis said that media reports have quoted that NICOP is not a requirement anymore for overseas Pakistanis, whereas Ministry has only issued directions to not demand NICOP from emigrant workers for registration at its Protectorate of Emigrants Offices. The NADRA Ordinance 2000 imposed compulsory requirement of National Identity for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) on the intending emigrants. Therefore, the NICOP became a precondition for protector clearance as no intending emigrant could be registered without having NICOP, he said. He added that NICOP imposition is country specific and structure of fees varies from country to country. NICOP fee is outside the operative domain of emigration laws which has always remained a cause of concern for the emigrant community as whole because it leads to substantial financial burden for them alongside the increased load of work on both the protector and intending emigrant, he said. Referring to a meeting between the Secretaries of Ministries of Interior and Overseas Pakistanis & HRD, he said that it has been decided that Protector of Emigrants will not insist for NICOP to protect clearance of the passports of intending emigrants. The directions have been issued to all the offices of Protector of Emigrants that NICOP is not to be demanded at the time of registration."If an emigrant who intends to work in another country produces a valid CNIC, his/her registration will be done." He said that the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment and Overseas Employment Corporation have already been directed to comply with the orders.

Immune system boosters

This post is sponsored by Nature’s Way.

With kids in school, we want to keep our family healthy during the winter season. I think of winter as the “eat more sugar, sleep less, experience more stress, and hide inside” season. These are some of the things that I try to remain mindful of as we head into the colder months.

As far as nutrients go, it can be challenging to eat a vegetable when you’re surrounded by holiday cookie platters. I look for ways to get in as much produce and nutrients as possible -soups and smoothies are convenient ways and the girls love them – and we consistently take our multivitamins and elderberry.

Some of the other things that I try to do to support our immune systems:

– Wash our hands… A LOT. I’m the weirdo who always has a hand sanitizer spray in her purse and in the car. I just have to say “hands” and the girls put their hands out to be sprayed (and roll their eyes a little. Don’t care).

DSC 3841

When we’re home, we use soap and water to wash our hands frequently, and we’re even more diligent during the winter.

DSC 3842

– Get outside. Vitamin D can help support the immune system, and we can naturally get less during the winter months. Even when it’s a little chilly, we bundle up and get outside every day. Whether we’re chasing each other, playing freeze dance, or taking the dogs for a walk, I think time outside is important for everyone’s sanity and happiness.

DSC 3884

– The wellness shot aka the lemon garlic shot.

The second any of us start to feel a cold coming on, the wellness shot happens. This is a friend from the San Diego barre studio’s recipe and I’ve been using it for years now. The whole family is on board, even the Pilot who stomps around muttering to himself after he takes one. P even gets a baby wellness shot and she chugs it like a champion. So proud.

DSC 3814

Here’s the recipe if you want to give it a try!

Juice of 1/2 lemon

1 clove of minced garlic

A little cayenne pepper on top

Take it like a shot! I’ll do these max twice a day when I start to feel a little under the weather

DSC 3819

– Try to get quality sleep. So much magic happens when we sleep, and it’s the body’s chance to repair, protect, and heal itself. Even with so much going on during this busy time of year, I try to make sleep a priority.

– Reishi! This is one of my all-time favorite supplements. Reishi is a beneficial mushroom, and I think it’s really helped keep my immune system healthy*.

DSC 3802

I also love that this Nature’s Way supplements doesn’t contain any artificial colors, wheat, soy, corn, gluten, dairy products, or preservatives. (As always, check with a doctor before adding any supplements to your routine.)

So, tell me friends: how do you support your immune system during the winter? Any favorite habits or remedies?

xo
